Envisaged starting date and duration: October 2025, 4-6 months. The internship is UNPAID and interns work five days per week (full time - 40 hours). The United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC) provides technical assistance related to combating terrorism, organized crime, corruption and drugs to requesting Member States. This assistance also supports States Strengthening criminal justice and health systems and to ratify and successfully implement international conventions and protocols, in compliance with the rule of law and human rights.The UNODC Regional Office for Southeast Asia and the Pacific's (ROSEAP) Regional Programme outlines the proposed scope and focus of UNODC's work in the region for the years to come. It provides a framework for delivering a coherent programme of work to: (i) give clear focus to supporting Member States and regional partners in achieving priority crime and drug outcomes; and (ii) increase the responsiveness, efficiency and effectiveness of UNODC's support to the region. The Regional Promgramme focuses primarily on crime and drug challenges that are best addressed through coordinated cross-border and intra-regional cooperation. There are five sub programmes under the Regional Programme which are Transnational Organised Crime, Anti-Corruption, Terrorism Prevention, Criminal justice systems, and Drugs and Health, and Alternative Development. For more information on UNODC, please visit the following website: https://www.unodc.org/roseap/ The Intern will be reporting to the Associate Programme Development Officer, first reporting officer, and the Communication Officer, second reporting officer., UNODC Regional Office for Southeast Asia and the Pacific. The purpose of the internship is to support the preparation and production of the 2025 UNODC ROSEAP Annual Report by assisting with data collection, content development, multimedia integration, and coordination with country offices and programme teams. The intern will directly contribute to, and work under the supervision of, the communication officer and the Programme Development Team of the UNODC Regional Office for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, located in Bangkok, Thailand. The intern will be performing the following tasks: 1) Assist in compiling inputs from country offices and thematic programme teams. 2) Support the development of human-interest stories and impact narratives. 3) Help organize content by country and thematic area. 4) Assist in preparing visual materials using tools such as Canva, PowerPoint, or other design platforms. 5) Support the M&E Officer in extracting and organizing data from monitoring tools (e.g., Smartsheet). 6) Help ensure data accuracy and consistency across report sections. 7) Provide initial proofreading and formatting support. 8) Track feedback from focal points and incorporate revisions under supervision. 9) Liaise with focal points from country offices and programme teams to follow up on contributions. 10) Assist in scheduling and documenting meetings of the Annual Report Working Group. 11) Assist in preparing the final version of the report for approval and dissemination. 12) Support the uploading and formatting of the electronic version. 13) other tasks as required.Qualifications/special skills
  • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). • Be computer literate in standard software applications and familiar with visual materials using tools such as Canva, PowerPoint, or other design platforms • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have recently completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D. Demonstrated ability to draft reports and produce high-quality written content with good knowledge on visual materials tools e.g. Canva, PowerPoint, or other design platforms Ability to independently conduct research and develop research products is required; Knowledge and proven experience with data management and analysis tool is required. Knowledge of the mandate areas of UNODC, particularly in connection with region-specific dynamics of security, is desirable.
LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
