We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Deputy Head of Secondary to play a key leadership role in the day-to-day running of the Secondary School. This position requires a proactive, visible leader who is passionate about student wellbeing, academic excellence, and operational efficiency. A strong background or demonstrated interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is essential, as the successful candidate will help drive forward initiatives that support innovation and excellence in these key subject areas.Key Responsibilities:
Pastoral Leadership and Student Welfare
-Be present and visible during key times of the day, including morning arrival, breaks, and lesson transitions.
-Monitor student conduct on arrival and in form rooms; deliver daily notices and reminders (e.g., event details, behaviour expectations).
-Manage all aspects of student mental health, including identifying needs, conducting student meetings, contacting parents, and maintaining support plans.
-Respond promptly to behavioural or welfare concerns raised throughout the day.
-Be on call to assess sick students and coordinate follow-up action with parents and office staff.Academic Oversight and Administration
-Monitor and coordinate internal assessments across Secondary, including A-Level mocks: scheduling, rooming, resource allocation, paper moderation, and invigilation.
-Support with Secondary reports: proofreading and quality assurance.
-Oversee IGCSE option process: student surveys, curriculum design, and timetable coordination.
-Assist with timetable planning, particularly for exam windows, and attend relevant meetings with the Cambridge Examinations Officer.
-Track and monitor behaviour using the CID system, liaising with Lead Teachers and parents as needed.
-Help plan teacher allocations, subject hours, and staff scheduling.Staff Development and Recruitment
-Support the induction of new staff, including safeguarding training and orientation.
-Take part in the recruitment and interview process for teaching staff.
-Provide mentorship to new and early-career teachers.
-Contribute to Professional Development (PD) days.Event Planning and School Culture
-Lead planning for central events such as Mental Health Day, Parent Evenings, House Events, and the Secondary Christmas Celebration.
-Organise assemblies, form room activities, PSHE, and reading programmes.
-Maintain the accuracy of the yearly calendar.
-Help coordinate school trips, including communications, logistics, and consent forms.Policy Implementation and Communication
-Monitor and enforce key secondary policies (e.g., uniform, behaviour).
-Draft and proofread school letters, announcements, and PR materials.
-Support the organisation and upkeep of classroom displays across the Secondary school.
-Ensure consistency and quality of form activities and house competitions.Additional Responsibilities
-Assist with the Year 6 into Year 7 induction programme.
-Liaise with Coordinators to ensure school-wide consistency in curriculum and policy.
-Act as a key contact for safeguarding matters alongside the DSL.Required Qualifications and Experience:
-A recognised teaching qualification and a degree in a STEM-related subject (preferred).
-Significant experience in secondary education, including leadership or middle management.
-Demonstrated understanding of STEM education priorities, innovation, and future skills.
-Proven experience in student welfare, academic monitoring, and behaviour management.
-Strong administrative, organisational, and communication skills.
-Experience working with assessment systems, parent engagement, and staff development.
-Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and model professional behaviour.Desirable Attributes:
-Experience working in an international or multicultural school setting.
-Familiarity with Cambridge IGCSE and A-Level curricula.
