Secondary Mandarin Teacher (Years 7-11, including IGCSE) Salary Negotiable
Reports to: Head of Languages / Secondary School Coordinator
Job Purpose:
To deliver engaging and rigorous Mandarin language instruction to students in Years 7-11 following the Cambridge Lower Secondary 0771 curriculum and the Cambridge IGCSE 0547 syllabus. The teacher will develop students' language proficiency across listening, speaking, reading, and writing, while fostering intercultural understanding and preparing students for formal assessments.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Learning
Deliver high-quality Mandarin lessons to Years 7-11 using the Cambridge 0771 and IGCSE frameworks.Teach across all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.Incorporate vocabulary, grammar, and cultural understanding as outlined in the 0771 curriculum.Prepare students for the IGCSE Mandarin Foreign Language exam (0547), including past paper practice and examination technique.Use a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.Integrate language and culture to foster curiosity and intercultural competence.Develop lessons with an integrated approach that links grammar, culture, and communication effectively.Curriculum and Assessment
Plan lessons aligned with CEFR levels A1-A2 (Lower Secondary) and up to B1-B2 (IGCSE).Design and administer formative and summative assessments in line with Cambridge standards.Track and report student progress in language acquisition and exam readiness.Maintain up-to-date records of student achievement and provide regular feedback to students and parents.Resource and Curriculum Development
Develop and adapt curriculum resources suitable for Cambridge Lower Secondary and IGCSE students.Use authentic materials and age-appropriate digital resources to support learning.Stay informed about updates to Cambridge International curriculum frameworks.Professional and Pastoral Role
Provide pastoral support and act as a form tutor if required.Participate in school events, parent-teacher meetings, and Mandarin cultural activities.Collaborate with the Modern Foreign Language team and contribute to cross-curricular projects.Attend relevant training and stay updated on best practices in language education.Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Chinese/Mandarin Language Education or a relevant field.Teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent international certification).Minimum of 2 years' experience teaching Mandarin at the secondary level, including exam classes.Experience with the Cambridge IGCSE Mandarin syllabus preferred.Desirable Competencies:
Familiarity with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).Ability to integrate technology and digital platforms in teaching.Strong organizational and classroom management skills.Positive, reflective, and culturally responsive teaching approach.Send Resume
