Job Responsibilities
- Draft and review construction-related contracts, including construction agreements, design service agreements, and subcontractor agreements - Review contract terms, deadlines, payment conditions, and defect liability clauses, and explain them to relevant internal stakeholders - Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, such as the Building Standards Act, Occupational Safety and Health Act, Subcontract Act, and environmental regulations - Support legal procedures and permit/license applications - Handle disputes and claims related to project delays, construction defects, etc., and coordinate with external lawyers - Establish and maintain internal compliance systems, and provide legal training to employees - Analyze project risks and propose appropriate countermeasures - Handle English contracts and research local laws for overseas projects - Other duties assignedJob Requirement
Necessary Skills / Experience
- At least 5 years of experience in legal affairs or legal consultant preferably in the construction or law firm - Strong knowledge of contract law and relevant regulations (e.g., Building Standards Act, Occupational Safety and Health Act, Subcontract Act) in construction industry - Experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts - Ability to handle legal disputes and communicate effectively with external lawyers - Conversational-high level of English (both written and verbal), especially for contract review and legal correspondence - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Preferable Skills / Experience
- Experience with international contracts or FIDIC agreements - Knowledge of local and international construction-related regulations - Experience in compliance training or internal policy development - Japanese language skills (for Japanese-headquartered companies) - Experience in cost estimation within the construction industry 9 (in such case, assignment to the Estimation Department is expected)
