The Data Scientist is responsible for researching, developing, and implementing advanced analytics, machine learning (ML) models, and Generative AI solutions to solve complex business challenges. In this role, you will take the lead in end-to-end model development-from data exploration through deployment-and partner with other teams to ensure the success of data-driven projects. You will leverage our Google Cloud Platform environment and choose industry-standard tools (e.g., Python,Tensorflow, Hugging Face, Gemini, Spark) to build, test, and optimize models that deliver measurable results.Key Responsibilities
1. Data Exploration & Preparation
- Collect, clean, and preprocess structured datasets from various internal systems (primarily GCP-based).
- Perform exploratory data analysis to uncover trends, patterns, and anomalies.
- Identify data quality issues, propose solutions, and collaborate with Data Engineers to ensure robust data pipelines.2. Machine Learning & Generative AI Model Development
- Design, build, and optimize ML/AI models (e.g., predictive, prescriptive) tailored to business requirements.
- Explore and implement Generative AI solutions (e.g., large language models, image generation) where applicable to drive innovation and add business value.
- Evaluate model performance using standard metrics (accuracy, precision, recall, etc.) and fine-tune parameters for optimal results.3. Statistical Analysis & Hypothesis Testing
- Apply advanced statistical methods to validate assumptions, test hypotheses, and guide data-driven decisions.
- Formulate clear, testable hypotheses and conduct controlled experiments or A/B tests where applicable.4. Collaboration & Business Problem-Solving
- Work with cross-functional teams (Manufacturing, Procurement, Commercial, etc.) to identify high-impact use cases and develop actionable analytics solutions.
- Communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders, translating complex data findings into clear recommendations and next steps.
- Support the Product Owner
- Data in prioritizing projects and ensuring alignment with broader business objectives.5. Data Visualization & Communication
- Create intuitive data visualizations, dashboards, or reports that highlight key insights and model outputs.
- Present complex analytical concepts in ways that resonate with senior leadership and operational teams.6. Continuous Learning & Research
- Stay current with evolving trends in data science, machine learning, AI, and analytics tools-especially those on Google Cloud Platform.
- Evaluate and experiment with emerging techniques (e.g., deep learning, Generative AI) for potential application in the organization.7. Mentorship & Team Growth
- Provide guidance to Data Analysts or junior team members eager to develop data science skills.
- Help shape a future data science roadmap and justify additional headcount as successes accumulate.Qualifications
Education
- Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Additional coursework or certifications in advanced analytics, ML, or AI are advantageous.Experience
- 5-8+ years of hands-on experience in data science or related fields, with a proven track record of deploying ML models into production environments.
- Strong background in statistical analysis, hypothesis testing, and machine learning.
- Familiarity with Generative AI approaches (e.g., language models, GANs) is a plus.
- Experience building solutions within a cloud-based ecosystem (preferably GCP) is a plus.
- Prior experience in manufacturing or industrial analytics is beneficial but not mandatory.Technical Skills
- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data science (Python, R, etc.).
- Working knowledge of machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn) and libraries.
- Familiarity with Spark or other big data processing engines is preferred.
- Comfortable collaborating with Data Engineers; knowledge of data pipeline best practices is a plus, though not required to build them.Soft Skills & Competencies
